At Lacuna Kitchen, the food and the people who prepare, serve and clean it up are treated with attention and care. Through untold stories and the invisible labour of kitchen staff, you will gain deeper insight into the impact of colonial spice trade and migration on society, and your digestive system. Digest these themes over Lacuna Kitchen‘s three-course meal.

In most restaurants, the chopping, cooking, serving and cleaning all happen as if by magic — long before your taste buds meet the food. The kitchen staff and their lives often remain invisible to you. There’s always a gap between you: a lacuna. At Lacuna Kitchen, kitchen workers take centre stage. Through theatre, food and social activism, you’ll learn the art of invisibility and hear personal stories and anecdotes from the world of Dutch gastronomy.

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.”
