افراتفری / Afra Tafri /  अफ़रा तफ़री / ਅਫਰਾ ਤਫਰੀ

is an urdu word for chaos, uproar,

anarchy and lawlessness.

'Afra Tafri Creations’ envisions a world in which hierarchies, power structures and the order of the world are complicated, reshuffled and overturned. Engaging its collaborators and audiences in a critical dialogue about the glocal entanglements of neoliberalism and Western society at large.

Pointedly shedding light into the cracks and shadows of the western society, thereby creatively carving new perspectives, enabling audiences to re-engage in the world with awareness and criticality.

What We Do

Afra Tafri Creations makes art that lives between contemporary theatre and social practice.

We create performances, conversations, and immersive experiences that unfold on stage and in everyday spaces — from kitchens and streets to community halls.

Our work includes stage shows, food-based projects, participatory rituals, audio pieces, and co-creations with non-professional performers and underrepresented communities.

We also publish small-run books and sell hand-blended spices that carry stories.

Why We Do It

We believe storytelling opens up new ways of seeing. It helps us sit with discomfort, hold contradictions, and reimagine the world together.

Theatre doesn’t belong only to institutions or professionals — everyone has a story, and everyone has a role to play.

We are guided by Chardi Kala (ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ) — a Punjabi spirit of joyful resilience. Even in complex times, we choose connection, curiosity, and care.

Each project begins in dialogue — with people, places, and histories.

We work collaboratively and slowly, often with non-professional participants. We value lived experience, shared meals, small gestures.

Our formats are fluid and experimental. We follow the energy of a place, and let the form emerge.

Care, openness, and trust are at the heart of our process. We hold space for voices often left out — and for questions that don’t have easy answers.
