The Art of Walking

The Art of Walking was a durational performance walk of 348 km from Amsterdam (NL) to Calais (FR) between 3 - 15 July 2020. The project raised awareness in Europe and beyond about the struggles of migrant laborers who were displaced after the first COVID-19 lockdown in India, having to walk long distances from big cities to their native villages.

The walk from Amsterdam to Calais connected the crisis in India to ongoing humanitarian crises across the world that spells privilege, as much as it spells dispossession, loss and homelessness.

By financially supporting 89 migrant workers’ families for 3 months in India, The Art of Walking exercised an urgent role and function of art amidst global crisis.
